In search of Inspiration

In search of Inspiration is a live radiodrama working with spoken word and soundscapes. In it the listener follows an artist on a journey to find inspiration for his art. Along the way he meets all kind of different creatures and visits places he has never been.

It came to be in an interesting way. I was working on a lot of different projects, starting, stopping, not finding what suited me best. In the end I became tired of finding new subjects all the time. I took a step backwards and looked at the things that

I decided to visualize my struggles in the form of surreal places and activities that took place in these spaces. These spaces and activities became the ingredients for a story which in itself became this live radio drama.

At first I started making visual concepts in Photoshop (from which this tribe, embedding the Coca cola brand in their ways of living is an example) and by painting (this is one of the passengers on the melting train station).

Afterwards I continued working on my idea this time in Virtual Reality using Blender and Unity 3D (this image shows digital beings). I became frustrated that I could not create the exact image I had in mind.
To go around this issue I decided instead to not show anything visually. I figured out it was better to let people create their own image instead of me showing them one. Radio drama’s and especially story telling with music (like Piccolo & Saxo by Jean Brousolle and Peter and the wolf by Sergej Prokofjev) where one of my favourite things to listen to when I was a kid. This became my inspiration for making this live radio drama. I spoke aloud while I accompanied myself with synths and field recordings to create the soundscapes for the spaces.
